Perhaps it’s an odd coincidence. Maybe it’s unseen collusion (we swear it isn’t), but it’s almost too appropriate for The Fresh Clothing to release a hardcore mixtape before we at Lamplighter release launch our magazine with a hardcore themed issue. If you take time to enter our twitter contest, you could be reading a free copy of Lamplighter Magazine and listening to this free mix at the same time! That’s almost too hardcore.
The Fresh Clothing and Ninety-six guitarist, Pat DeFrancisci, have come together to release Pit Crew: Volume 1, a hardcore punk mixtape. This 13-song free download includes songs from artists like Touche Amore, Trash Talk, Bad Brains, Sick Of It All, and Knuckle Up. Notably, the mixtape features a new song from New Jersey local hardcore outfit Suburban Scum. The song is the title track from their new EP, “Hanging By A Thread,” which comes out on January 10 via 6131 Records.
These 13 songs were put together by DeFrancisci, whose band has self-released two EPs this year. “When choosing each track for this mixtape, I wanted to showcase where hardcore music started and where it’s going. For instance, the Bad Brains track is from 1982 while the Suburban Scum song isn’t even out yet. These songs, in my opinion, are what define hardcore music both new and old.”
