Questions – Week Three | 2015 Artist Writer Mashup

Lamplighter’s 2015 Artist Writer Mashup is featuring the illustrations of New Jersey artist Lauren Clark. Each participating writer is paired with an illustration. Throughout the project, writers are given a series of prompts, contemplations, and questions. Each participating writer is to compose some work of fiction, non-fiction, or poetry inspired by the illustration. Here are today’s questions:

The final week is upon us! If you’ve been writing actively, chances are you’ve produced a full draft and have been editing your writing, boiling it down to some form you think is approaching “perfect.” Tell us about it! Answer the following questions in a blog post.

  • Do you have a (nearly) finished piece of writing?
  • Is it in the genre where you started? If not, what drove you to change?
  • What of the art inspired you most through this process?
  • What else helped to inspire you?

Remember to blog and share your post in the comments below!

Lauren Clark graduated from William Paterson University, where she studied various forms of art, and where she started taking Illustration more seriously. Lauren likes to play with imagination, something so many lose as we “grow up.” The series of Illustrations used for this project has been showcased at the Hoboken Arts Festival and on a month long display at a local wine bar. You can see some of Lauren’s work on Etsy.com

The final week is upon us! If you’ve been writing actively, chances are you’ve produced a full draft and have been editing your writing, boiling it down to some form you think is approaching “perfect.” Tell us about it! Answer the following questions in a blog post:
    • Do you have a (nearly) finished piece of writing?
Yes, in my head, in some alternate dimension of space and time, the piece is completed.
    On paper, not yet.
    On Word, not yet.

    • Is it in the genre where you started? What drove you to change?
The primary focus driving me to change my mind (the one in alternate reality) is the illustration is so completely pliable, effectively compelling in its construction and openness to multi-interpretations, I can’t choose which place, which perception, changing like a molting hawk, a gold finch from winter olive to bright spring yellow, the task shifts constantly.
    • What of the art inspired you most through this process?
Black. White. Gray. Shapes. Nature. Human Nature. Boxes. Squares. Handkerchief. Ghost. Skull. Flower. Enlightenment. Interrelatedness. All of these and more~
    • What else helped to inspire you?
My spirituality inspires me in everything ~
