The Freshest Band in NJ: Freak Out Dude

Freak Out DudePlenty of people remember the end of The Exotic Aquatic, playing their last show in 2011 at Montclair’s Gallery U. Even more know The Fresh Clothing, headed by Exotic’s frontman Jason Soroka. But now, storming back into the music scene (because he never truly left), Jason has teamed up with Sam Frisch of Cash Cash, a New Jersey-based electro-pop group, for a project with a wildly different sound than their other works: Freak Out Dude. Blending a plethora of both recognizable and indistinguishable sounds, lo-fi hipster noise punk is the best way to describe the duo, leaving them pretty wide open to interpretation–trail-blazing and collaboration is a seemingly large theme with this group.

Freak Out Dude played their first show at Division East Skate Shop on January 21st, also releasing the five track EP Demonstrations online. Featuring Washington Square Park and Animal Crackas on NJ (track three), the EP can be downloaded for free from FreakOutDude.com or the group’s Bandcamp.
